Why I’m Obsessed With Great Lengths Hair Extensions

A couple days ago I went to get my hair done, and after throwing out a couple snapchats about it, I received an overwhelming amount of questions regarding my hair. Therefore, I figured a whole blog post talking all things hair, was in order! Ps. if you don’t already follow me on Snapchat, you totally should (username: dollypeel). I tend to be quite the chatty cathy on there!

I get my hair done in Toronto at The Little House of Great Lengths. My stylists name is Dee, she’s actually the owner of the salon. I’ve been going to Dee for about 10 years now. I’ve never changed stylists and I probably never will. Even when I lived in Florida, I would purposely make a trip home just to get my hair done! I know that sounds crazy, but Dee and I have grown a bond over the years, and it’s very hard for me to trust anyone else besides her. Many people don’t realize this but I have extensions, and I absolutely love them! Which also contributes to my reasoning for flying all the way home for my hair.

I’ve been getting extensions since 12th grade! It was actually my graduation present. I’ve always got Great Length extensions. Great Length extensions are not just about length, they can be used to create volume, highlights, or even fix questionable haircuts. If you want to add dimension with colour to your hair, without the damage of chemical colour, Great Lengths are a great option! However, the thing I love most about Great Lengths is that they don’t use glue, wax, latex, or metal that can damage hair. Like I said earlier, I’ve been getting Great Lengths extensions for YEARS and I can honestly say they have not damaged my hair at all. In fact, my hair has actually grown. Great Lengths utilizes a polymer bond- a synthetic material that mimics the molecular structure of hair itself. It causes no damage provided it is installed properly and you take care of it as instructed.

I get my hair done about every 5 months (I do tend to stretch it a bit, because I live a fair distance away from my salon). When I go to get my hair done, it’s pretty much an all day event. I get a removal, a highlight, toner, trim, and then the extensions reinstalled. Shawn does my highlights, and Dee installs my extensions. This might seem like a super long day, but I actually look forward to spending the day at the salon. Dee and Shawn are super fun to hang with, and Dee is always such a sweetie and orders me sushi for lunch (not going to lie, I look forward to that sushi way more then I should – it’s so good LOL).

I’ll give you a few details about my extensions in particular. I get 20 inch extensions, and lately I’ve been using the colour 59, which is a really icy blonde. Shawn also highlights my hair and does a toner on it before hand in the shade ice, and he added a tiny bit of pink to it this time as well.

Although extensions are not in everyone’s budget (and to be quite honest they’re not always in mine), I never regret splurging on them. I’ll often ask my parents not to get me any Christmas or Birthday presents and just put that money towards my hair lol. But as you can see in these pictures, the transformation is amazing and in my eyes, it’s totally worth it!

So, if you’re interested in extensions, I wholeheartedly recommend Great Lengths. And if you live in the Toronto area, I personally wouldn’t go anywhere but The Little House of Great Lengths!

My Everyday Make-up Favs!

IMG_9334

If you know me personally, you would likely be aware that I’m a total make-up guru! I love trying out new products, and finding the best of the best. Although I’m no professional, watching make-up tutorials on YouTube is basically part of my daily routine. I love seeing what other beauty bloggers are currently into. I keep an eye out for the items that people constantly rave about, and purchase the ones that I feel have a common high rating.

I often switch things up in order to try new products, but as of lately these products have been part of my everyday routine, and are definitely some of the best on the market.

I buy 99% of my make-up from Sephora. The reason being that they obviously have a massive selection, but also because their rewards program is the bomb.com!

Two Faced Chocolate Bar Palette

If you’re on the market for a new eyeshadow palette I HIGHLY recommend this one. It has the perfect combination of mattes and shimmers, and you can create so many different looks with this palette alone. I bounce between the neutral matte shades for my everyday shadow, and usually add colour and shimmer to my look when I’m going somewhere more formal. If your a newbie to make-up, or simply just don’t have the time to do much, this is a great palette for you.

NARS Blush (shade Deep Throat) & Benefit Hoola Bronzer

I purchased the NARS Deep Throat Blush a few months ago, after hearing numerous beauty bloggers talk about it. It lasts for a very long time, as it’s very pigmented so you only need to apply a couple strokes. I love how it has a slight peachy tone to it.

The Benefit Hoola Bronzer was literally made for EVERYONE! I don’t know one person who has tried this Bronzer and not liked it. I heard about it years ago, and it’s still one of Benefits top selling products.

Estée Lauder Double-wear Foundation & Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer

I’ve tried numerous foundations in my life-time and I ALWAYS come back to the Estée Lauder Double-wear. I truly have not found any other foundation that can top it. This foundation stays looking flawless all day and all night, without making your skin look oily like a lot of other foundations do. I have friends that have oily skin that love it, and I personally have dry skin and it works great for me too. Definitely a must-have!!

The Urban Decay Naked Concealer is a very full coverage concealer. I love it because it doesn’t cause cakey fine lines under my eyes, but it still has that heavier creamy texture to it. I switch up concealers quite frequently, but this is definitely one of my favourites.

Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder

If you wear make-up, I’m sure you’ve heard of this product before. It’s rated the best translucent setting powder in multiple beauty magazines, and it’s in almost every single beauty bloggers daily make-up routine. And there’s a reason for it- IT’S LIFE CHANGING! I don’t even know what else to say, it’s just something that’s so amazing, you have to see for yourself!

Benefit They’re Real Mascara

FullSizeRender (2)

Hands down the best mascara I’ve tried so far. It can literally make it look like your wearing false lashes. Benefit also makes a They’re Real mascara primer that is amazing as well. However, if you don’t feel like spending the extra mula for the primer, the mascara alone works wonders.

KYLIE Matte Single & NYX Butter Gloss

FullSizeRender (4)

I’m a huge fan of the KYLIE lip kits. I currently have four different shades and I love them all. They create that perfect matte lip, and it stays on all day and night with only one application. Like I’ve literally wore it all day, gone to bed without taking it off (not a good idea, but hey, it happens!) and when I wake up, it still looks like I just put it on! They’re definitely worth the investment.

The NYX butter glosses are super affordable. You can purchase them at almost any pharmacy, Target, even some Super Stores. They glide on so smoothly (just like butter!), and they give you that perfect glossy lip. Although you may have to reapply throughout the day, for the price it’s totally worth it!

10 Favourite Nail Colours

Screenshot_2016-08-13-21-50-59-1

One thing I’m sure most of us ladies have in common, is our love for a perfect manicure and pedicure. As much as I love getting an updated colour every couple of weeks, life doesn’t always allow for that. Sometimes I don’t have time to make it out of town that week (I’m currently living in a small town and the most convenient place to get a mani is about half an hour away). Or I simply have too many expenses that week that prevents me from being able to treat myself. That’s why, when I find a colour that I absolutely love, I usually buy it. I do this because on the weeks that I can’t get them done at a salon, I can simply do them myself. And if I have the option to go to the salon, I can always bring my favourite colour with me.

That brings me to the topic of this weeks post: my top ten favourite nail colours.

As you will notice, I’m a huge Essie fan. I find that Essie nail polish stays on for long periods of time, compared to other leading brands, and they’re consistently up to date with trending colours. If you’re on the hunt for a specific colour, definitely check out their website, essie.com. They provide a full colour guide with their lightest hues to their darkest, and everything in between. I’ve created a roundup of all of my go-to colours. Although this frequently changes by season, these colours have always been my constant staples.
